परिचय · Introduction

Sakhi Sewa Samaj — सखी सेवा समाज

Sakhi Sewa Samaj is a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political organisation registered at the District Administration Office, Dhanusha (Regd. No. 287/068/069) and affiliated with the Social Welfare Council of Nepal.

We began as a Saturday study circle for twenty-three girls in Janakpur whose families could not afford tuition. When three of them were about to be married before finishing Class 10, the founding members sat with their parents, the ward chair and the school — and all three went on to sit their SEE. That conversation, repeated thousands of times, is the heart of our work.

Today we work in eight districts of Madhesh with a team of 74, most of them women from the communities they serve. Our accounts are audited every year and published in full.

Our Vision

A Madhesh where every girl learns, every woman is safe and heard, and no daughter is valued less than a son.

Our Mission

To work alongside women’s groups, families and local governments on education, protection, health and livelihoods — with plans women help write and budgets they can see.

Our Values

Dignity before charity, girls’ voices in every decision, inclusion of Dalit, Muslim and marginalised families, and complete transparency in every rupee.

Our Journey

From one courtyard to eight districts

Registered in Dhanusha by eleven founding members, with one study circle for twenty-three girls in Janakpur.

Legal aid desks and a short-stay safe house open with the District Women’s Committee and local police.

Nutrition circles and antenatal outreach begin in Sarlahi and Mahottari alongside female community health volunteers.

Four ongoing programmes, 48 completed projects, 4,200 girls kept in school and 640 women’s groups across Madhesh.
Governance

How decisions are made

A nine-member Executive Committee elected by the General Assembly every three years sets policy; at least seven seats are held by women. Day-to-day management sits with the Executive Director, and every programme has a community-elected women’s committee that holds the implementation budget.

  • General Assembly of 212 members meets every year
  • Executive Committee of 9, at least 7 women, meets quarterly
  • Independent audit by a registered CA firm each fiscal year
  • Procurement above NPR 5 lakh is publicly tendered
  • Safeguarding and complaints channel open to every community
