Mithila Kala Udyam

Mithila Kala Udyam Ongoing Programme · मिथिला कला उद्यम

A women-owned Mithila art and craft cooperative with design, training and online sales.

Mithila painting is one of Nepal’s most recognised art forms, and almost all of its artists are women. Yet most earn little from it, selling through middlemen.

Mithila Kala Udyam helps 420 women artists form a cooperative that buys materials together, trains younger artists, and sells directly — at fairs, to hotels and through an online shop. Product design support brings Mithila motifs to textiles, stationery and home goods.

Objectives

  • Register and equip a women’s Mithila art cooperative
  • Train 420 artists in design, pricing and quality
  • Open an online shop and three retail partnerships
  • Double average monthly income from art for members
